1. Relevancy
General
Relevancy is the key to the success of ChemIndustry.com and its advertisers. Greater relevance drives targeted users to our advertisers and more repeat visits by those users.
To ensure high relevancy in search results, our editorial staff reviews each Web site submitted to ChemIndustry.com and approves (or not) every single search term / category. The following is a guide to help you understand how we evaluate listings in our directory and search engine.
Search terms
Advertisers may bid on a search term only if their Web site has substantial content that is clearly and obviously reflective of the search term. Search terms might be products, services or information provided by the advertiser. A search term can include an unlimited number of words. Our search engine looks for an exact match, hence the shorter the search term the more likely it is to generate click-thrus.
When applicable, consider bidding on synonyms, i.e. chemical names, brand names, CAS numbers. Terms can be broad and generic, i.e. "process equipment" or more specific, i.e. "rotary vacuum dryer". It is recommended that you bid on both the plural and singular forms of keywords.
Advertisers cannot bid on brand names of competitors.
A search term is relevant to a Web site only if users are directed to the exact area of the advertiser's site where the relevant search term content is located, or the path to the relevant content is immediately clear from the first page where users arrive.
Categories
There are roughly 220 categories in the ChemIndustry.com directory organized into six main categories, each with several sub-categories. Web sites are listed only in lowest level categories. The six main categories are as follows:
Chemical suppliers - Includes manufacturers, distributors, representatives, e-marketplaces and all types of chemical suppliers.
Industrial Equipment - Includes manufacturers, distributors, representatives, and all types of equipment dealers.
Lab and scientific supplies - Includes manufacturers, distributors, representatives, and dealers of analytical instruments and lab supplies of all kinds.
Software - Includes manufacturers, distributors, and representatives of commercial software products.
Services - Hosts Web sites of service providers including engineering, consulting, manufacturing, trading, training, technology transfer, testing, etc.
Resources - Includes web sites of organizations, agencies, academic institutes and sources of information. Only Web sites / Web pages with substantial content clearly reflective of the category can be included. Neither the manufacturer's home page nor Web pages that describe his products are eligible for this category.
Organizations - includes Web sites of chemical-related organizations and societies.
Academic institutes - includes Web sites of chemical / pharmaceutical-related schools and relevant departments in universities.
Titles and descriptions
It is also important that site titles and descriptions are relevant to the content on an advertiser's site. The advertiser's site listing must communicate to the user why the site is a good match for their search. It is recommended that the search term be included in the site title or description.
2. Unlimited search terms / categories
There is no limit to the number of search terms and categories you can bid on as long as they are relevant to the site's content. To generate the greatest amount of traffic we encourage you to bid on as many search terms as possible, so that you increase the chances of your listing being viewed by your potential customers.
3. Duplicate search terms
Advertisers may bid on search terms only once, even if the site is using different URLs. This policy helps ensure that users are presented with a variety of results and prevents a single advertiser from monopolizing a particular search term or category. This policy also helps us maintain a fair and open marketplace.
4. URLs
It is imperative that an advertiser's Web site is functional and that the site listing does not direct the user to a broken URL. Inactive URLs present a poor user experience and an inefficient use of the advertiser's funds. The user is unable to reach the advertiser's site, but the advertiser must still pay for the click-through. In addition, all Web sites must be functional in both Internet Explorer and Netscape.
5. Expert Service
If Expert Service is requested, our search specialists will review your site and compile a list of relevant search terms/categories in which your site's listing will be prioritized. There is no extra fee for this service. You'll be able to add, delete, and edit listings from your "Manage Account" interface at any time.
6. Max Bid
To maximize traffic, you can designate the maximum amount you are willing to pay per click-through in order to keep your listing in the #1 position. Your bid will be automatically increased in increments (but no higher than your designated maximum amount) if another advertiser bids higher on a specific term/category. Your bid will be automatically decreased to the minimum amount needed to keep your listing in the top position.
7. Minimum bid
All listings are required to have a minimum bid of 25 cents. Bids can be increased / decreased in increments of 5 cents.
8. Minimum deposit
Although there is no set-up fee, a minimum, non-refundable deposit of $100 is required. A minimum deposit of $100 is also required when adding funds to an existing account.
9. Set up time
Generally, search listings are posted online within two business days. If you sign up for our Expert Service, it might take up to four business days for our search specialists to compile a list of relevant search terms and categories. Once processed, we will send you an e-mail confirmation to let you know your listings are online!
10. Manage listings
You can manage your listings using your manage account interface anytime after signing up for a new account. You will have to logon to:
  • Add new search terms and categories
  • Edit / delete search terms and categories
  • Change bids / retain top positions
  • Add funds
  • View activity and finance reports
  • Enhance listings with graphic elements
11. Tie bids
When two or more advertisers bid on the same term at the same price, ChemIndustry.com will give the first advertiser who bids on that term and price the higher position in the search listings. For example, if there are 3 advertisers who bid 25 cents on a term, they will be listed in order of "seniority" at the 25 cent price.
12. Translation Service
