Registry of Open Access Repositories (ROAR)
This project by the European Commission promotes open access to the research literature pre- and post-peer-review through author self-archiving in institutional eprint archives. This registry has two functions: (1) to monitor overall growth in the number of eprint archives and (2) to maintain a list of GNU EPrints sites (the software Southampton University has designed to facilitate self-archiving).

NMRShiftDB
NMRShiftDB is a NMR database (web database) for organic structures and their nuclear magnetic resonance (nmr) spectra. It allows for spectrum prediction (13C, 1H and other nuclei) as well as for searching spectra, structures and other properties. Last not least, it features peer-reviewed submission of datasets by its users. The NMRShiftDB software is open source, the data is published under an open content license.

Biorefinery Grant Announcement
Prepared Remarks for Energy Secretary Bodman
"Today we are identifying six biorefinery projects across the country that we hope will support the development of cost-effective cellulosic ethanol as an alternative transportation fuel. Biorefineries are similar in concept to today's oil refineries; except that instead of using fossil fuels, they make use of clean, renewable biomass to produce fuel and chemical feedstocks.
The six projects we are unveiling today have been selected for negotiation of awards totaling up to 385 million over the next four years. With the private sector sharing at least 60 percent of the respective project costs, DOE's funding will leverage over 1.2 billion in total investment in these biorefineries."

Bucky storage
The search for new materials that can store hydrogen safely for fuel cell applications is ongoing. Researchers at the Institute of Applied Mechanics, of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, reckon one class of materials has until now been overlooked in this endeavor - the fullerenes. The team has now used molecular dynamics methods to analyze hydrogen absorption by C20, C60, C80, C180, C240, C540 fullerenes and the C46, C167, C505 carbonic clusters at various pressures and temperatures. Their results revealed the optimal thermodynamic parameters for using the hollow carbon cages as hydrogen storage capsules. Hydrogen can be absorbed to almost 14% capacity at 60 K and 10 MPa, the team says, in the fullerene-like carbonic clusters.
