ScientificCommons.org
The ScientificCommons.org project (beta) was developed at the University of St.Gallen, Switzerland. This promising tool introduces an interesting user interface and powerful search capabilities. As of June 2007 more than 15 M publications, by more than 6.7 M authors have been indexed. ScientificCommons.org uses the Open Access Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH) to retrieve scientific knowledge data. Repositories who support the OAI-PMH Protocol can add their content to the ScientificCommons.org index by manually adding their OAI URL.

H index
The h-index (Hirsch, 2005) is robust, remaining relatively unaffected by errors in the long tails of the citations-rank distribution, such as typographic errors that short-change frequently-cited papers and create bogus additional records. Read the full paper here: http://arxiv.org/ftp/cs/papers/0701/0701074.pdf

Reach out
Europe's new regulator system for chemicals, REACH, Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and restrictions of Chemicals, came into force at the beginning of this month concomitantly with the inauguration of the European Chemicals Agency based in Helsinki. REACH aims to protect human health and the environment and at the same time encourage innovation across the chemical industry in the European Union. Critics, however, say that it will be many years before consumers see any changes to countless household goods such as detergents, cosmetics, and plastic products.
New European Chemicals Agency starts operations as REACH enters into force
