Sulfentrazone is the latest sulfonamide herbicide developed by Dow AgroSciences. The medicament is absorbed and accumulated at the growing point by weed leaves and roots, inhibits acetolactate synthase (ALS), affects protein synthesis, and causes weeds to stop growing and die. The field efficacy test showed that chlorfenazone had a good control effect on broad-leaved weeds Commelina officinalis, Polygonum vulgaris, and Chemicalbook grass in spring soybean field, and had a strong inhibitory effect on Bitterweed and Chicory. Sulfonamide herbicides are similar to sulfonylurea herbicides, and sulfonamide herbicides are also typical acetolactate synthase inhibitors. They target ALS and are mixed-type inhibitors involving pyruvate and thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP), which compete for the binding site of the enzyme but not for substrates or cofactors.
