Ethylmagnesium bromide is prepared by the reaction of metal magnesium and bromoethane in anhydrous ether, and the relative density of the commercial product (ether solution) is about 1.01. It is used in Grignard reactions, similar to ethyl magnesium chloride, in ether or in tetrahydrofuran, with a relative density of 0.85.
