On the 7th, the Ministry of Energy, Petroleum, and Minerals of Senegal issued a communiqué stating that the country's crude oil production in 2025 exceeded 36.1 million barrels, surpassing the annual target.
The communiqué revealed that the Sangomar offshore oil field initially projected a production of 30.53 million barrels for 2025. After the government raised expectations, the final annual output reached 36.18 million barrels. The communiqué noted that the oil field performed well in reservoir response, well stability, and overall operations.
Data showed that in December 2025, Senegal exported 2.94 million barrels of crude oil to the international market. Progress was also made in the natural gas sector, with the jointly developed Greater Tortue Ahmeyim offshore gas field project by Senegal and Mauritania exporting 500,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas that month.
The Sangomar oil field is located approximately 100 kilometers west of Dakar, the capital of Senegal, and is jointly developed by Australia's Woodside Energy and Senegal's national petroleum company. The field officially began production in June 2024, marking Senegal's entry into the ranks of oil-producing nations.
